The business has got a good strong foundation for growth. The systems in place collect customer data and are backed up to the cloud meaning the business information is available in real-time at any-time via mobile or PC and will never be lost. The systems are integrated and streamlined to make processes easier to administer and more effective for both the customer and the user.
Our typical customers are Dog and Cat owners but we also specialise in wild bird, hedgehogs and the smaller pets including rabbits, hamsters etc. We have many long-term customers with regular weekly/monthly orders, all data is kept within our system database and reports are very easy to run to extract any required information.
The business opening times are Monday to Saturday 9:30 – 17:30, we have never tried expanding into Sunday openings, or extending our opening times to earlier mornings or later in the evenings, these are opportunities which could have positive impacts on the bottom line, usually increasing business availability increases turnover.
The business has a fully working ecommerce website, which has recently been upgraded, with a professional team working on SEO on a regular basis making sure the site is more visible to search engines.
The website is all integrated within the business making stock control a simple and effective management process. The website is definitely an opportunity to grow the business, which is still in its infancy stage, making the possibilities endless. The website currently offers click and collect and free local delivery with a minimum spend and has over 600 products available, this can easily be increased to over 2k products within a couple of weeks.
The business has grown and the turnover is consistent month on month, there is huge potential and opportunities to grow in a number of ways which will further compliment the business, some strategies include: Offering a grooming service, Pet Café, Pet Sitting, Pet Shows, Holding local events, implementing a Ecommerce strategy using blogs and Social media involvement for regular social interaction i.e. building your online identity.
We believe our business branding makes us unique and desirable to customers, we are different as we choose to accommodate a customer’s needs, rather than a customer changing their needs to fit what we stock. Our branding clearly describes what we do and who we are, which is an important element when promoting and growing the business, buy in is therefore easier to achieve with customers if the message is aligned to the branding as it would be more of a pleasure for them to use your services.
The local competition focuses more on exotic pets, which we could have easily adapt too, however we have decided to support their activities in the hope that they will help support ours. We stock a number of brands which the local competition are not allowed to stock due to being too close to our business, this could be better promoted locally so potential customers are fully aware of the brands that are more exclusive to us, this is an opportunity that we haven’t tried which could enhance customer awareness, further increasing turnover.
We have kept advertising to a minimum for most activities, just testing the water, most advertising of this type will come to an end this year. Next year our budget for advertising will be more internet focused, using search engine advertising more effectively and building our online identity to increase website traffic. We also believe attending pet shows and having a more proactive presence within the community will dramatically increase turnover, this is an area we have not tried due to our other business and personal commitments.
We have got our own branded dog food which could easily grow and become a big success with the right advertising and marketing campaign. We have setup a separate website which is uniquely branded to the pet food which also fits in with the business branding. The customers that buy our food, speak very highly of it and would never change. These customers are now regular customers on the food. We offer our food to new customers unsure what food to feed, with probably a 90% success rate for conversion. This is a great area to expand for different foods for dogs or starting a new range of cat food too. Apart from setting up the website, we have done no further advertising i.e. Ad words or Facebook to promote the food.
We have all social media setup and ready to go, we have focussed mainly on facebook in the first 2 years, and more recently haven’t been too involved, so again an area which could easily be restarted and revamped.
We have only dipped our toes into a very large ocean of opportunity, the right owners could make this business a real success!
After a successful sale we will be available (if needed) for two weeks, for helping with the transition and handover of the business, for system training and supporting in supplier orders, and introducing the new owners to existing customers to help endorse them from the start. If we are needed for any extra time this can be negotiated and agreed prior to the sale.
The sale includes a delivery van (all branded), all fixtures and fittings within the shop and all equipment used within the business, some of which is: 7 freezers (3x commercial), all shelving and display units, a large commercial TV screen used in the shop window, CCTV and all computers etc.
This business is located near a park on a popular road with adequate free street parking directly outside, making it easy for customers to pick up their supplies anytime during the day or week.
