Poco Coffee was established in 2012, opening our first outlet in Earlestown, St Helens.
We are an independent coffee shop/Cafe selling a variety of barista prepared coffees, plus fresh sandwiches, toasties, breakfasts, cakes, frappes and Milk shakes. Our opening hours are 08.30 to 4pm Monday to Friday and 09.00 to 4pm Saturday. The word poco was used for the brand as it means small in Spanish and we saw ourselves as the small independent operator trying to compete with bigger brands such as Costa, Nero and Starbucks. Our aim has always been to provide great coffee and food whilst being passionate about good quality customer service. We have tried to position ourselves at the heart of the community. Supporting and promoting local causes wherever possible through events and fundraising. We have also engaged in some alternative activities such as Comedy nights which have gone down very well with customers.
We believe we have built up a strong reputation with the local community and that is largely down to the staff we have employed. We have been very fortunate to have some great people work in this business. The current team is headed by a Cafe manager who has been dedicated and diligent in running the Cafe with a small team of part time Cafe assistants who have been equally effective at keeping our customers wanting to come back day after day.
At any one time there would be 4 staff who share the duties across the working week. The staff have built up strong relations with countless local customers who enjoy the atmosphere within the cafe.
The owners do not currently operate within the cafe on a day to day basis, which depending on the intentions of any new owner could be an opportunity to be more involved on a day to day basis. We are reluctantly placing the business on the market after 6 successful years as we have a young family and other business interests, and it’s time for us to reduce our workload and we believe the business would benefit now from fresh impetus. There is opportunity to extend opening hours, including Sunday trade which would increase turnover, and coupled with the opportunity for a new owner who may wish to work on a part time or full time basis within the Cafe, it could be a great opportunity for a life style business.
